What Have I Gained?

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

Yes, I’ve lost a lot.

My marriage.

Friends.

My belongings.

My company.

My financial security.

But in that loss, what have I gained?

Getting pedicures with my best friend from high school

Taking my niece to her dance recital

Taking a photo with my brothers for the first time in five years

Writing pages of journal entries in the sunshine

New friends that feel like family

A therapist and someone who listens to me

Closure to past relationships

A renewed relationship with my family after 10 years

Looking at hometown through a new lens

Forced time to think

Having my sister-in-law pray for me at the altar of my family’s church

Having my younger brother cook dinner for me and take me on dates

Exercising at the gym with friends

Worshiping next to my mom

Getting coffee with friends on Friday morning

A chance to create something new
